What it does

Parents sign up, create a profile for each kid, and set a PIN. Kids pick their profile, complete short lessons matched to their age, and earn practice money for every right answer. They split their money into Save, Spend, and Give jars, set a savings goal and watch it fill up, and invest practice money in a pretend stock market. Parents approve spending, set chores and allowance, and track each kid's progress. Built for Parents of kids ages 5 to 17 who want their child to grow up confident with money but don't know how to teach it at home. Sprout gives kids short daily lessons on saving, budgeting, investing, and credit, matched to their age, while parents stay in control by approving spending, setting chores and allowance, and watching progress..

What a real user taught us

When I tested the first version, the daily challenge said "pick one idea in your head" and gave 10 coins just for tapping the button. That meant a kid could earn coins without learning anything. I changed it so kids have to tap an answer, see right away if they were correct, and read a short reason why before they get any coins. Now the coins are tied to actually understanding the lesson.

A safety issue we fixed

Kid profiles are saved in a list that anyone with the app link can open. Saving a kid's login PIN there would have let anyone see it, so I left the PIN out until Sprout has private sign-in. I also only collect a kid's first name and age, never a last name, email, school, or photo, so nothing saved can identify a real child.

What we would build next

I'd add a practice stock market where kids invest their practice money in real companies like Apple and Nike, using real daily prices. They'd see their investments go up and down, learn why prices move, and compare their results to the whole market. That turns the investing lessons from reading about stocks into actually trying it, safely, before they ever use real money.
